Wigan Athletic duo Lee Evans and Cedric Kipre rounded off the club’s Christmas appearances over the festive period with a visit to St Marie’s Primary School.

The pair enjoyed some Christmas-themed games, put on by Wigan Athletic Community Trust staff, with over 30 pupils from the school.

Latics stars have made a number of appearances over December to schools and Community Trust programmes, something Lee believes is very important to do over the Christmas period.

“It’s been great seeing all of the smiles on the kids’ faces with it being close to Christmas, it was a great session and they really enjoyed themselves as well as being nice and active too.

“As players, whatever we can give back to the community is great. If it means we have to take a couple of hours out of our days to go and put smiles on not just kids’ faces, but others as well, then it can only be a good thing.”

The Community Trust currently work in St Marie’s in Standish on a weekly basis delivering the Premier League Primary Stars programme with PE and classroom activities taught to pupils at the school.

Jacob, 11, is a pupil at the school and a big Latics fan and says it was nice to have players come and visit despite a busy Christmas schedule.

“It’s great they came and it shows that the footballers aren’t all about the football and they also have a different side to them.

“Even before the Christmas period, they can still come and visit despite the pressures of their busy schedule.”

Alex, 10, is also a Latics fan and said: “It was fun to have them take part it was also a nice opportunity because some people won’t get to meet the players and get to know them too.”
