Mulgrew, 33, has joined Latics from Blackburn Rovers after the EFL confirmed they were satisfied Latics submitted the required documentation before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
A Celtic academy graduate, Mulgrew moved south of the border to Wolves in 2006 before returning to Scotland with Aberdeen in 2008, spending two years at Pittodrie before returning to Celtic Park in 2010.
On his return to Celtic, Mulgrew won five Scottish Premiership titles and featured over 200 times before joining Blackburn Rovers in 2016.
Capped 39 times by his country, Mulgrew helped Rovers to win promotion from League One to the Championship alongside Latics in 2018 and has scored 25 goals in 108 appearances for the Ewood Park outfit.
