Speaking to Latics TV after agreeing a one-year-deal at Wigan Athletic, Hungarian goalkeeper Daniel Gyollai said it was very obvious straight away how much he would fit in at the club, as he praised goalkeeping coach Nick Colgan's setup and the we he's been welcomed after an initial two-week trial period.

"It's amazing to come to a club as big as Wigan Athletic. I was at Stoke City for seven years and I really enjoyed my time, but I felt like I needed to leave and challenge myself again and Wigan is the best place for me to do that.

"Nick Colgan has given me a great account of the club. I've trained for two weeks with the goalkeepers and got straight in with the lads. They've welcomed me straight away and I've really enjoyed being here so far, so I'm delighted to get everything sorted.

"Nick's a great coach and Marshy, Owen and Jamies Jones have all been amazing with me. They made me feel welcome and there's great competition around the place.

"All of the lads want to improve and everyone wants to have a good season. I feel like it's a very competitive environment, but we all get on well off the pitch. On the pitch we're all competing for the same spot.

"To be honest, Nick didn't even have to sell the move to me. He's a great coach, the facilities are amazing. I've enjoyed every single session he's put on for me and I feel like I get something good out of every single day at the training ground.

"It's a great club competing in the Championship, so I'm just looking to do as well as I can."

Speaking about his journey to where he is today, Gyollai continued:

"I made the move to live in Budapest when I was 13-years-old, so I've lived away from home for almost 10 years now. A year after I moved to Budapest, the opportunity with Stoke came up. I went for a trial and really enjoyed that. I had no doubts that I wanted to come to England and pursue a career over here.

"I worked through the ranks at Stoke and I've played for Hungary as well all through the ages up until the Under 21s. Hopefully by being here and trying to put in some good performances I can maybe improve and impress the senior coaches to earn a call-up."

And Daniel's thoughts on his season ahead?

"Initially I'm here for a year, but I'm looking to come in and improve as much as I can, and push all of the lads around me because I know they'll be pushing me harder than I ever have been.

"I have to challenge for that spot, even if it's for the bench at first. I'm always hungry, so if I make the bench, then I want to make the team, so there's no stopping right now because this is where the hard work starts.
